STUMPS, DAY 2: Rohit Sharma (17*) and Shubman Gill (18*) gave India a fine start after Australia piled up 480 runs. On Day 3, both the openers would be looking forward to convert their starts into big scores as the pitch is expected to stay good for batting. India pulled things back in the second session of the day, thanks to Ashwin whose triple strike dented Australia to an extent. Usman Khawaja (180) missed his maiden double hundred. Ashwin tried all the variations and got the wickets of Green, Carey and Starc. With a 208-run stand, the highest for both the teams for any wicket in this series, Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green did not give an inch to India in the first session of the day. With no reverse swing and hardly any spin, Indian bowlers were made to toil, good old fashioned grind that comes with Test cricket. Australia scored 92 runs in 29 overs in the first session of Day 2. Indian bowlers tried their best but with the pitch getting better and better for batting, there were hardly any rewards.
