Bangladesh vs New Zealand Highlights, Champions Trophy 2025: New Zealand, India seal semis berth; Pakistan, Bangladesh crash out

Welcome back to the chase. The umpires are out in the middle, followed by the players of Bangladesh who spread out after a prep talk by their skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto in a hurdle. There comes out the openers of New Zealand as well, Devon Conway will open the inning with Will Young. Taskin Ahmed will start the proceedings for Bangladesh with a slip in place. Here we go...  

... THE RUN CHASE ...

New Zealand's fielding was sharp, complementing their bowling efforts. Alongside Bracewell's heroics, Will O'Rourke contributed with two wickets, while captain Mitchell Santner also chipped in with a wicket. With a modest target of 237 to chase on a good batting wicket, New Zealand will fancy their chances. Michael Bracewell is up for a quick chat. He expresses satisfaction with his performance, acknowledging the unpredictability of bowling. He credits his experience of bowling in windy Wellington conditions for helping him adapt to Rawalpindi's breeze. Bracewell praises New Zealand's exceptional fielding, emphasizing their commitment to saving every run. Reflecting on his catch to dismiss Shanto, he admits the breeze made it tricky but is pleased to have held on. Bracewell notes that batting became easier toward the end of Bangladesh’s innings and expects the ball to skid on under the lights. He believes a strong start in the powerplay will be crucial to chasing down the target.

Bangladesh began positively, reaching 58/1 in the first 10 overs. However, Michael Bracewell’s exceptional spell turned the tide, as he claimed 4 wickets for just 26 runs in his 10 overs. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto fought hard with a resilient 77, but he lacked support from the other end. Jaker Ali’s late cameo of 45 runs helped Bangladesh avoid a complete collapse, ensuring they at least crossed the 200-run mark, which looked unlikely at one stage.

Bangladesh produced a disappointing batting performance, managing only 236/9 in their 50 overs on a batting-friendly track at Rawalpindi. Given the conditions, this total appears well below par, and credit goes to New Zealand’s bowlers for their disciplined approach, delivering many dot balls to stifle the hosts.
