We are all set to start the action on Day 5! The two umpires stride out toward the center of the park. The players of Bangladesh are taking their respective positions on the field. Mohammad Rizwan has a huge task on his shoulder and on the other end, Sajid Khan will have just one job, to hold the wicket. Nahid Rana will be starting the proceedings on this final day of the Test match. The sky is gloomy, so the pacers might get a little advantage. Rana to Rizwan with two slips and a gully in place. Here we go...
UPDATE - 3.58 am GMT - Not a great news folks, but certainly not a terrible one either. It has been raining overnight in Sylhet and that is the reason why the start of the play has been delayed by 15 minutes. The groundsmen have done a tremendous job of draining the puddles from the ground. However, it's still overcast, and we do have a rain prediction, but if things are right, we will be starting the play at 4.15 am GMT. Stay tuned with us!
Game stopped due to : Wet Ground Condition
PITCH REPORT ON DAY 5- Athar Ali Khan is pitchside with his valuable insights. He starts off elaborating on the situation of the game, saying that Bangladesh will need three wickets to wrap up an historic win. Pakistan still has Rizwan, who has shown immense resilience. Then he adds that the pacers haven't done much damage lately, but it's Taijul Islam who was outstanding on the previous day. Continues that the pitch still looks good, but the ultimate challenge for Pakistan would be to hold the wicket on the other end.
The blueprint for victory - To seal the result in their favor, both camps must execute opposite strategies with absolute perfection. Bangladesh needs their star left-arm spinner, Taijul Islam, to exploit the fifth-day pitch wear with relentless accuracy, choking the runs and utilizing close-in fielders to squeeze out the final three batsmen. On the other hand, Rizwan must heroically shield the lower-order tailenders, farm the strike carefully, and punish any loose balls to whittle away at the remaining runs. It is a pure battle of strategic patience versus attacking pressure, and the team that controls the opening hour will claim the ultimate trophy.
The final equation - As the teams take the field, the game situation leaves all three classic Test results mathematically on the table. Pakistan are far from totally out of this contest, the formidable Mohammad Rizwan remains undefeated out in the middle, anchoring the chase with his side still needing 121 runs to secure an epic victory. However, the pendulum undeniably swings heavily toward Bangladesh, who require just 3 more wickets to wrap up the match. With Pakistan’s recognized batting order depleted, their notoriously vulnerable tail is fully exposed, meaning a few clinical breakthroughs will hand the visitors a celebrated victory.
A defiant guard - The intense atmosphere surrounding this final morning has been set up by Pakistan’s remarkably gutsy batting exhibition on the penultimate day. Staring down an astronomical fourth-innings target of 437 runs, their line-up faced crushing pressure. Instead of folding easily, a spirited middle-order fightback breathed life straight back into a contest that was rapidly slipping away. A heroic, stubborn century partnership between Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan frustrated the fielding side, changing a potential quick capitulation into a genuine rearguard action that kept their nation’s fighting hopes alive.
The brink of history - Welcome to the fifth and final day of this monumental second Test match, where five days of relentless drama culminate in a massive, high-stakes finale. There is an electric hum of enthusiasm in the air as Bangladesh stands right on the threshold of a historic achievement, securing a monumental series whitewash against Pakistan. Having already outclassed their opponents on Pakistani soil in 2024, the visitors are now within reach of back-to-back Test series wins, completing a spectacular home-and-away clean sweep. Every single delivery of this morning session bears the immense weight of cricket history for the Tigers.
... DAY 5, SESSION 1 ...
Into the final day - If anything, Pakistan have done themselves proud by pushing this into a fifth day. They have worked hard and their batting looked a lot more organised in the second innings compared to their first dig. But with only Mohammad Rizwan as the recognised batter out in the middle, one end stays exposed with him tasked to shepherd the tail for as long as possible. Bangladesh are just three wickets away, and they would want to wrap it up tomorrow in the first session itself. It will be a test of resilience for the tourists. Join us on Wednesday, 20th May, as the first ball of Day 5 is scheduled to be bowled at 4 am GMT. See you then!
A valiant fight in the third session - Pakistan were staring into the abyss, but Rizwan and Agha hauled them back into the contest with a brilliant 134-run partnership. Gritty when they needed to be, proactive when the opportunity arose, the two batted with real maturity. Both were well-set to carry Pakistan forward. But Bangladesh knew that one breakthrough here could bring the house down. Just when panic was about to set in the Bangladeshi camp, it was Taijul Islam who broke the back of Pakistan's lower middle order with the second new ball. He dismissed the well-set Salman Agha and fished out Hasan Ali soon after as well. The tourists slipped from 296/5 to 304/7, and Bangladesh now find themselves in the driving seat to script history.
Taijul and Nahid turn the screws on - Pakistan still had a herculean task ahead coming into the afternoon session. Babar and Masood batted nicely in the first half hour or so and kept scoring at a good clip. However, it was Taijul Islam who broke the 92-run stand for the third wicket by fishing out Babar, who looked in pristine touch. From that moment, Bangladesh wrestled back control, sending Pakistan tumbling from 133/2 to 162/5, with the well-set Masood also falling for a fine fifty. Salman Agha and Rizwan then took it upon themselves to bat out the session, weathering testing spells from Nahid Rana and Taijul to see Pakistan through to 200/5 at the break.
Babar and Masood steady Pakistan - Mehidy was in action in the morning, snaffling a stunning gully catch to end Abdullah Fazal's patient vigil before trapping Azan Awais in front with a crafty in-drifter. Pakistan were under pressure, being pushed to rebuild. But Masood and Babar came together and steadied things up pretty well. With no demons as such on the pitch, the two looked proactive, feasting on anything loose, as they peppered the fence with a string of crisp boundaries to see the session through. Nahid Rana bowled a superb spell with control and was supported by the two spinners, who bowled consistently on tight lines.
