CSK vs DC highlights, IPL 2026: Seam-bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton headlined a dominant bowling performance by picking 4-18 as Chennai Super Kings secured a 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals to get their first win of IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.
Overton’s clinical spell - the best figures of the ongoing season so far - stifled DC’s chase after their openers, Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul, had blazed past the 50-run mark in just the fourth over. The momentum shifted decisively when CSK struck thrice in three overs, leaving the visitors' middle order in disarray.
Despite a fighting 60 off 38 balls from Tristan Stubbs, DC fell well short of the target and were bowled out for 189 in 20 overs, with CSK’s fielding also backing up the bowlers well. Apart from Overton’s hard lengths, debutant Gurjapneet Singh’s disciplined lines caused constant trouble, while Anshul Kamboj was at his accurate best to pick 3-35.
The lack of sustained partnerships also proved to be DC’s undoing as CSK got their first win in Chepauk after losing six successive games. David Miller and Tristan Stubbs attempted to rebuild DC’s chase by taking runs off Noor Ahmad and Khaleel. The duo had a 45-run stand before Overton returned to castle Miller with a pacy delivery.
Ashutosh Sharma’s cameo of 19 off 10, including two sixes, briefly gave CSK a scare, but Noor lured him into a lofted drive that was well taken by Kamboj at sweeper cover. Auqib Nabi followed soon after, caught by Akeal Hosein at extra cover off Overton.
Stubbs, meanwhile, battled on with some quality shots on both sides of the wickets and reached his fifty in 30 balls with a brace off Gurjapneet. The asking rate, however, kept climbing. Stubbs’ knock, laced with four fours and three sixes, ended when he miscued Overton to Noor at mid off. Yes, obviously, it feels good to finally get that win and to come here and speak to you. But I think it was great. Great performance to start with. I always felt that coming here, we have been batting really well, batting first and to post 200-210 when the wicket is slightly on the slower side and still posting that good total, I think we were showing really good signs even the last game which we played here.
But as I said, today again it was one of those knocks where Sanju actually took to the opposition, played a magnificent knock, even Ayush played brilliantly. But it was about bowling today. It was about wickets in the middle or bowling that aggressive lengths and sticking to your plans, keep it really simple. So, really proud of the bowling effort. (Happy with the bowling effort?) Well, definitely we don't have that X-factor in the bowling lineup, but as we have been discussing every game, how we can be effective, how we can be proactive and how we can save that extra boundary.
But being attacking as well, you may have defensive fields, but you try and be attacking, try and use your lengths really well. That's what you can do at your best. And I think even the last few games, we were almost there, you know, it's just that one or two odd overs that really went big over 20 or 25 that really cost us.
So I think today, as I said, bowling wise, we were right on the mark. Yes, we were set on the back foot in the powerplay, but I think after that, we came back really well. I think we got off to a good start, but if we talk about the chase, after the powerplay we lost two or three wickets in quick succession, which broke the momentum. I feel the difference in fielding was the game-changing moment for me. And if you look at it, whenever wickets fell, they fell in pairs, which made things very difficult. Wickets kept falling in clusters, and that led to a drop in momentum.
I think the batsmen did a decent job, but overall our fielding let us down, because if you look at it, chasing around 213-215 was pretty much possible. I would like to credit the bowlers, they did a very good job restricting the opposition to around 215-217. It was a very good batting wicket. But as I said, if we hadn’t dropped one or two catches in the field, the result could have been different. (Did the pitch slow down?) No, nothing really changed. I think to be very honest, I think how much ever form you are in, how much ever matches you have won for your country, a couple of failures definitely puts a lot of doubts in your mind. But I just wanted to go back and do my basics and believe in myself and just stick to my scoring patterns actually. So a lot of thoughts came, I think should I go harder in the start or should I change my game plan.
But I definitely wanted to stick to what was working and luckily it came off beautifully today. I think great wicket. I think thanks for that curator for making a lovely wicket today. So hopefully we can defend the total. Yes sir, I think to start off it was definitely holding a bit. It was sticking on a bit and when Aksar bowled in the powerplay, the ball was holding with the new ball. But when the ball became old, I think it got a great wicket to bat on. And we just stuck to our basics and I was definitely had a great partnership with Aayush. I think such a great youngster. I think really enjoyed batting with him. No sir, nowadays you can't set a target in mind. You just have to, once you are set in, I think you just have to look at as much a big score as you can put on the board. So I think that was the plan to just keep going. We didn't lose much wickets.
We had a very long batting order to come. So it was just about picking your bowlers, picking your options and sticking to contribute as much as possible. It's definitely a challenging score to be very honest, I think. But with the amount of bowlers which we have, I think if we have a good powerplay, I think it will be really good."
