Brevis eventually fell trying to accelerate, but not before playing a handy knock. Curran, on the other hand, went from steady to explosive and brought up his first half-century of the season. His 26-run assault in the 16th over against Suryansh Shedge was the turning point of the innings and gave CSK a much-needed boost. Just when CSK looked set for a big finish, MS Dhoni walked in and hit a four and a six but was soon dismissed while going for another big shot. Yuzvendra Chahal then went on and picked up a hat-trick to completely stall CSK’s finish. He ended with 4 wickets in the 19th over, playing a key role in limiting the damage.
CSK’s innings began on a shaky note. After being asked to bat first, their top order crumbled early. Both openers were dismissed within the first 3.1 overs, and they were left struggling at 22/2. Soon after, Ravindra Jadeja also departed during the Powerplay, leaving them at a fragile 48/3. Yet again, CSK’s top-order issues in the Powerplay continued to haunt them, barring Sam Curran. The momentum shifted when Sam Curran was joined by Dewald Brevis. Together, they stitched a valuable 78-run partnership and steadied the innings. Curran took charge with aggressive strokeplay while Brevis played the supporting role, rotating strike and finding boundaries when needed. Their smart approach kept the scoreboard ticking.
It was a one-man show for Chennai Super Kings, but they couldn’t capitalise fully as they were bowled out for 190 in a must-win game. Sam Curran was the lone warrior with the bat, scoring a brilliant 88 runs and helping CSK post a good total. Coming in at number three, Curran played a sensational knock, attacking from the start and punishing anything loose. On a pitch that wasn’t very easy to bat on, with variable bounce and some help for the bowlers, his innings stood out as something special. Thanks to him, CSK have a score to fight with, but they'll now need their bowlers to defend this total to stay alive in the race for the playoffs. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings pulled things back strongly, taking six wickets in the last three overs and keeping CSK from running away with the game.

Yuzvendra Chahal to Deepak Hooda, Short and around off, Deepak Hooda punches it wide of sweeper covers and comes back for the second run. Maybe it would have been better if Shivam Dube had kept the strike.

It was Dewald Brevis who hit a boundary on the very first ball after the first break, but this time around, he fails to get any bat on the ball and trudges back. Azmatullah Omarzai steams in from over the wicket and lands it on a hard length, just outside off and gets the ball to nip back in to go past the bat on the outside edge. The ball skids through quickly and uproots the off stump. The 78-run stand is broken, and CSK find themselves in familiar territory again.
Strategic Break! Punjab Kings have pulled things back slightly in the last few overs, but they also know that both the batters are set and they need to break this partnership to breathe easy. Chennai Super Kings wanted this pair to set up the base for the launchpad, and they have done exactly that, but now it is time to change gears, and any total of over 180 on this wicket will be tough to chase. Also, Azmatullah Omarzai replaces Suryansh Shedge.
