... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then, Rajasthan Royals need 188 runs to win and end their 2025 IPL season on a high. They have had countless botched chases this season, and Chennai Super Kings have the bowling lineup to further add to those numbers. RR's opening stand and Noor Ahmad's presence in the middle overs will be crucial for each side. The exciting run chase is up next, stay tuned!
Sairaj Bahutule, the spin bowling coach of RR, is up for a quick chat. He says that this has been a good performance as the bowlers stuck to their plan and also executed them. Adds that they have a reasonable total on the board, which he thinks they can chase down. States that they are trying to focus on the skills and how each and every player can execute that, and the overall morale of the team is good as the team management is making sure to keep the players in good headspace. Further says that Wanindu Hasaranga is too good a bowler, and he has bowled really well in this game, as he understood the pace and lengths quite early. Tells that the team has batted well in the Powerplay throughout the tournament, and he thinks that the partnerships will be the key in chasing this total.
The Super Kings will feel they have left a few runs out there in the middle. There was a rush of blood to begin with as the CSK batters went hard in the Powerplay but kept losing wickets. Ayush Mhatre set things up with a quickfire 40-odd but they were 5 down inside the first 8 overs. Then came the stand between Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube in which the former played a brilliant counter-attacking role, but he too couldn't get to a fifty. Dube and MS Dhoni tried to up the ante in the final few overs but neither of them could get that flurry of boundaries and those early wickets up top really hurt CSK.
On a ground that has favored teams batting first in recent times, Sanju Samson opted to bowl and even after his bowlers went for plenty in the Powerplay, they managed to rip through CSK's top order as Yudhvir Singh picked up three wickets to balance out an expensive spell. A couple of partnerships flourished in the middle overs but the Royals fought back hard at the death and Akash Madhwal turned things around after a couple of really expensive games and picked up 3 wickets, including 2 in the final over to hand his side the crucial momentum boost.
Rajasthan Royals will feel they have done enough to restrict Chennai Super Kings to a slightly below-par score. CSK maintained a scoring rate of over 10 runs per over for most part of the innings, but have finished well short of the 200-run mark, not even breaching 190 runs.
Akash Madhwal to Noor Ahmad, BUZZERS! Akash Madhwal goes fuller and on middle, Noor Ahmad flicks it away towards deep mid-wicket for a run. The throw comes in at the keeper's end, where Sanju Samson fails to collect it cleanly and allows an extra run. Chennai Super Kings have finished on 187/8!
