DC vs SRH highlights, IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets

DC vs SRH highlights, IPL 2025: Faf du Plessis' blazing half-century and Mitchell Starc's fiery five-wicket haul powered Delhi Capitals to a commanding seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 clash on Sunday.

Chasing a modest target of 164, Delhi Capitals made a steady start, with Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk carefully negotiating Mohammed Shami’s opening over. However, McGurk broke the shackles in the second over, launching a slog sweep over long-on for six off Abhishek Sharma.

Sensing an opportunity, DC’s aggressive duo went on the offensive, putting the Sunrisers' bowlers under pressure in the powerplay. Faf took the lead, dismantling Shami with classical strokeplay. He smashed the first ball of the third over for a six and followed it up with two consecutive boundaries, extracting 15 runs from the over.

By the end of the powerplay, DC had raced to 52/0. Faf kept the momentum going, taking on Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins with a six and a four. He reached his 38th IPL fifty off 26 balls with a quick single but fell soon after to debutant Zeeshan Ansari.

Despite the setback, McGurk kept up the scoring rate, finding boundaries with clever shot-making. However, he too perished to Ansari, lobbing a simple return catch after a brief yet impactful knock of 38 off 32 balls.

KL Rahul, returning to the XI, struck a massive 90m six off Shami but struggled for fluency. His stay ended at 15 when he missed a sweep, allowing the ball to clip the bails, handing Ansari his third wicket.

Despite losing wickets, DC remained in control, thanks to Abhishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs. Porel sealed the victory in style, smashing a six to complete a dominant seven-wicket win.

SRH Collapse After Fiery Start

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad struggled after opting to bat first, slipping to 37/4 in the powerplay. Aniket Verma (74 off 41 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (32 off 19 balls) attempted a rescue act with a 77-run partnership, but Kuldeep Yadav (3/22) and Starc (5/35) ensured they were bowled out for 163 in 18.4 overs.

SRH's troubles began early when Abhishek Sharma was run out in the first over by Vipraj Nigam. Starc then struck twice in the third over, removing Ishan Kishan (2) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (0) in quick succession, reducing SRH to 25/3.

Travis Head attempted to counterattack but was cleaned up by Starc for 22, marking the seventh time the pacer had dismissed him. SRH were reeling at 37/4 in just 4.1 overs.

Klaasen and Aniket steadied the innings, with Klaasen striking Starc for a six and a four to take SRH past 50 in 4.5 overs. They accelerated, reaching their 50-run stand in just 22 balls. Aniket, in particular, dominated against spin, smashing Axar Patel for two sixes.

At the halfway mark, SRH were 105/4, with Aniket (40*) and Klaasen (31*) at the crease. Their partnership was eventually broken when Mohit Sharma dismissed Klaasen for 32, courtesy of a well-judged running catch by Nigam. SRH were 114/5 in 10.5 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav then removed Abhinav Manohar (4) before striking again to dismiss Pat Cummins (2), leaving SRH at 123/7 in 14 overs.

Aniket continued his counterattack, smashing Axar for a four and two sixes in the 15th over. He brought up his maiden IPL fifty off 34 balls, featuring four boundaries and three sixes. However, his impressive innings came to an end when he was caught near the boundary by Jake Fraser-McGurk off Kuldeep for 74. SRH’s hopes of a strong finish faded as they collapsed to 148/8 in 15.5 overs.

Starc returned to clean up the tail, dismissing Harshal Patel (5) and Wiaan Mulder in quick succession, wrapping up SRH’s innings at 163 in 18.4 overs.

Starc finished with a brilliant 5/35, while Kuldeep’s 3/22 and Mohit Sharma’s economical spell (1/25) ensured DC had complete control over the game from start to finish.

DC vs SRH Live Score: SRH's bowling attack!
SRH’s bowling attack, spearheaded by Mohammed Shami, Cummins, and Harshal Patel, remains a potent unit but was found lacking against LSG.

Cummins, in particular, endured a tough outing, conceding at an economy of 15 runs per over.

The Australian skipper will be eager to bounce back and lead from the front.

DC vs SRH Live Score: DC's bowling attack
Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack, led by Mitchell Starc, promises to be a formidable force. His face-off with fellow Australian Travis Head could be a key battle. Alongside Starc, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will be crucial in neutralizing SRH’s explosive opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Head, while Stubbs and Mohit Sharma could provide crucial breakthroughs in the latter stages.

SRH announced their intentions emphatically with a record-breaking 286/6 in their season opener, powered by Ishan Kishan’s blistering 47-ball 106 after Head (67 off 31) and Abhishek Sharma (24 off 11) set the tone.

However, their batting faltered in the second outing, managing just 190/9 against LSG.

Wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen acknowledged the need for more consistency, emphasizing the importance of capitalizing on starts.

"A score of 210-220 would have been par on this wicket. We just didn't put enough runs on the board," Klaasen admitted. "Losing wickets at crucial moments disrupted our momentum. We need to ensure that doesn't happen frequently."

DC vs SRH Live Score: First match for KL Rahul
Determined to make a fresh start, KL Rahul is eager to let his performances do the talking.

"I've been out of the T20 team for a while. I know where I stand as a player and what I need to do to get back. This IPL is an opportunity to rediscover my game and push for a return to the T20 squad," Rahul recently stated.

Before joining the Delhi Capitals camp, he was spotted training under India's assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in Mumbai.

Rahul’s presence is expected to bolster Delhi’s top order, which struggled in their previous match. Chasing 211, DC found themselves in dire straits at 65/5 before Ashutosh Sharma (66* off 31 balls) and Vipraj Nigam (39 at No. 8) orchestrated a thrilling one-wicket victory.

Tristan Stubbs also chipped in with a crucial 34 at No. 6.

Beyond his batting, Rahul will play a vital role in Delhi’s leadership group, offering crucial inputs to Patel, who is leading an IPL franchise for the first time.

DC have often faltered in closing out games in recent seasons, but their hard-fought win over LSG should inject confidence into the squad.

DC vs SRH Live Score: Hello and welcome!
Hello and welcome to the Live coverage of IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Riding high on their morale-boosting victory over Lucknow Super Giants and strengthened by the return of India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, Delhi Capitals will aim to sustain their momentum when they face a formidable Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL on Sunday.

After an explosive start to their campaign, SRH stumbled against LSG, suffering a five-wicket defeat that exposed vulnerabilities in their otherwise destructive batting lineup.

Away from home, the onus will be on skipper Pat Cummins to inspire a swift turnaround.

Delhi, on the other hand, will be buoyed by the return of Rahul, who missed the season opener due to the birth of his first child. A pivotal figure in India’s Champions Trophy triumph earlier this month, Rahul was acquired by Delhi Capitals for Rs 14 crore.

However, despite his experience, he opted to play under Axar Patel’s leadership instead of captaining the side himself.

Once an all-format mainstay for India, Rahul was not part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad last year and endured a tough IPL stint with LSG, leading to his non-retention.

His tense on-field exchange with team owner Sanjiv Goenka last season, where frustration was evident, became a widely discussed moment.

Determined to make a fresh start, Rahul is eager to let his performances do the talking.
DC vs SRH highlights, IPL 2025: Aniket Verma lit up the Visakhapatnam stadium with a sensational knock on Sunday in Visakhapatnam, smashing 74 off just 41 balls in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s innings against Delhi Capitals.

Coming in at a precarious position, with SRH struggling at 37/4, the 23-year-old counter-attacked with fearless stroke play to amass his first fifty in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

His innings was laced with five fours and six sixes, boasting a strike rate of 180.49, the highest among SRH batters in the match.

His explosive batting not only rescued SRH but also registered the second-highest score for an SRH batter at number five or below in IPL history, after Heinrich Klaasen’s 80 not out last season.

Aniket took on Delhi’s formidable bowling attack, including Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav, with aggressive intent.

His partnership with Heinrich Klaasen briefly steadied SRH, pushing the team to a fighting total of 163. Despite wickets tumbling around him, Aniket played with remarkable composure and power, proving why SRH invested in him during the IPL auction.

Who is Aniket Verma?

Born in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, Aniket Verma is a rising cricket star, whose journey to the IPL has been one of relentless determination and sheer talent.

The 23-year-old first caught the attention of scouts in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League 2024, where he smashed 273 runs in six innings, including a blistering 32-ball century and a tournament-high 25 sixes.

His power-hitting ability made him a standout performer, earning him a trial with Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. SRH were quick to recognise his potential and secured him for his base price of INR 30 Lakh.

Aniket’s cricketing journey wasn’t easy. He lost his mother at a young age and was raised by his uncle, Amit Verma, who became his biggest support system.

Despite financial struggles, Amit ensured that Aniket received proper training, driving him 13 kilometers daily to Ankur Cricket Academy in Bhopal.

His childhood coach, Jyoti Prakash Tyagi, immediately recognised his exceptional power and predicted that one day, Aniket would score 400 runs in an innings -- a prophecy that came true when he hit 400 in a four-day inter-division match.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Aniket sharpened his power game at Faith Cricket Club, practicing on an international-standard ground and analysing his own batting footage to improve his technique.

His admiration for big hitters like Heinrich Klaasen and Hardik Pandya has shaped his aggressive batting style.

Now, with a dream IPL debut knock of 74 off 41 balls, Aniket has announced himself on the big stage. With SRH backing his six-hitting abilities, he could be the next big thing in Indian cricket.
