Suthar, who had already impressed with his classical approach on the second day, completed a rare feat by becoming only the 10th Indian to take a five-for on Test debut and the seventh spinner from the country to achieve the milestone. Bowling unchanged for long periods, he consistently extracted turn and bounce while keeping the Afghan batters under constant pressure.
Only Rahmat Shah offered any significant resistance. Fresh from becoming Afghanistan's first batter to score 1,000 Test runs, the experienced right-hander made a gritty 60 off 135 deliveries with nine boundaries and a six. He shared a stubborn stand with the injured Sharafuddin Ashraf, who courageously batted despite struggling with what appeared to be a hamstring issue. But once Suthar removed both batters in quick succession, the innings folded rapidly.
Afghanistan made a cautious start to their second essay and reached 18 without loss by lunch, though they still require 394 more runs to avoid an innings defeat against a rampant Indian side.

Veteran Rahmat Shah once again stood out for the visitors with a fighting 60 off 135 balls, adding 33 runs with the injured Sharafuddin Ashraf after Prasidh Krishna had removed Azmatullah Omarzai. Ashraf battled through a suspected hamstring problem before edging Suthar behind, while Rahmat eventually became the spinner's fifth victim attempting an ambitious slog sweep. Despite his resistance, Afghanistan were unable to prevent another batting collapse as India's newest spin sensation continued to make a remarkable first impression.
