Police in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district have arrested a woman and her father after a businessman accused them of orchestrating the religious conversion of his son through a relationship and marriage. The FIR names nine individuals, including a maulvi, and invokes provisions related to cheating, forgery, intimidation and unlawful religious conversion. Authorities allege the victim was emotionally manipulated, converted and later subjected to blackmail for financial gain. The arrests have sparked political and social reactions, with police continuing their investigation and search for the remaining accused.
