Drinks break | India 26/3 after 12 overs
A terrific first hour of play on Day 1 for England. They get three wickets in form of KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli. Veteran James Anderson doing all the damage for the hosts. India are now in spot of bother and will now look for a partnership between Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane.

Curran to Rohit | FOUR!
Bad ball this time from Sam Curran and it gets the deserved treatment. Rohit Sharma hits it straight down the ground to collect his first boundary of the day.

Anderson to Kohli | OUT!
Ohh! Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy! A peach from James Anderson and this time he gets the big fish. India skipper Virat Kohli has fallen for 7. Once again that probing delivery just outside the line of the off stump. Kohli goes for the expansive drive but the ball takes the outside edge of his bat and goes straight into the gloves of Jos Buttler. Once again Kohli falls while attempting the drive off a pacer. India are now in big trouble. They have lost three inside the first hour of play. IND 21/3 after 10.5 overs

Maiden start from Curran | Anderson continues
Sam Curran starts off with a maiden. Bowled his first over just outside off, asking a questions to Rohit Sharma. There were a couple of plays and misses but no harm done to India. Ollie Robinson strays down the leg side and that was too easy for Virat Kohli. Comfortably works the ball to the fine-leg fence to collect his first boundary of the day. IND 17/2 after 7.3 overs.
16:02 (IST) Aug 25
Anderson to Kohli | 3 runs
This time a full delivery from James Anderson and a sloid push from Virat Kohli straight down the ground. Presents the full face of the bat. A decent work from Moeen Ali as he chases the ball and prevents in from going into the long-off fence. Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the meantime complete three easy runs. IND 11/2 after 6.1 overs.

Anderson to Pujara | OUT!
What a start this has been from James Anderson. He is back at his best with the new ball, yet again! Second wicket for him and he is only into his third over. Pujara falls for 1 and India are in trouble early. IND 4/2 after 4.1 overs.
15:43 (IST) Aug 25
Tight start from Robinson as well!
A tidy start from Ollie Robinson as well from the other end apart from the no ball. Was on the mark straightaway, probing Rohit Sharma just outside the line of the off stump. Anderson to continue from the other end. IND 2/1 after 2 overs.

There's a bit of cloud cover and it's tacky, and it'll get better and better for batting eventually. Quite happy to lose the toss. Malan comes in for Sibley and Overton comes in for Wood. Overton was picked on the conditions. Saqib was great in the white-ball format, but Overton continuously performs in county cricket so we've picked him, even though it was a difficult choice to make. We need our openers to get us to a good start. It's one of the hardest things to open in England, as Virat said, and the openers have the temperament to get us off to a good start.

England skipper Joe Root at the toss

It's a surprise I've won. We're batting first. Looks firm and without grass and runs on the board will set this up. We're going in with the same XI. We thought about getting Ashwin in, and the pressure of the extra seamer in these conditions is crucial. Jadeja will bowl a lot more overs because the conditions are suited to him. You can lay down markers and a culture, but it's upto the boys to take it up and win from pressure situations. It's all about handling pressure at the highest level. It's the toughest place to bat for the openers, and KL and Rohit have done a good job. Hopefully they can continue. About my batting, I'll try to make an impact for the team with the bat.
