NEW DELHI:
Chennai Super Kings have brought in South African all-rounder Dian Forrester as a replacement for
Jamie Overton for the remainder of IPL 2026, after the England international was ruled out with a right thigh injury.
CSK confirmed the move on Thursday, a day after announcing that Overton would return to the UK for further assessment and management. “Dian Forrester joins the squad in place of Jamie Overton,” the franchise posted on social media.
Overton’s exit adds to CSK injury troubles
Overton had emerged as one of CSK’s most impactful overseas players this season. The all-rounder picked up 14 wickets and scored 136 runs in 10 matches, playing a key role with the new ball and in the lower middle order.
His departure is another setback for a side already stretched by injuries. CSK had earlier signed Macneil Noronha as a replacement for injured all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh, while several first-choice players have missed parts of the campaign.
The five-time champions have also had to cope without Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson for significant periods, while former captain MS Dhoni is yet to feature this season due to a calf issue.
Who is Dian Forrester?
Forrester arrives with a strong domestic record for South Africa and experience in five T20Is. A left-handed batter and right-arm pacer, the 24-year-old has scored more than 1,000 first-class runs at an average above 45 and averages over 50 in List A cricket.
In T20s, he has scored 681 runs at a strike rate of over 140, making him a like-for-like all-round option for CSK as they push for a playoff spot.
CSK’s next challenge comes against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on May 15, with the franchise hoping Forrester can quickly plug the latest gap in their injury-hit squad.
