5. Chris Gayle (128* vs DD in 2012) and Rishabh Pant (128* vs SRH in 2018)

There is a tie between Chris Gayle and India's young sensation Rishabh Pant for the fifth place, with both scoring an unbeaten 128 to take up this spot. Gayle hammered 13 sixes and seven fours during his 62-ball knock that guided Royal Challengers Bangalore to 215/1 against Delhi Daredevils. Gayle's ton helped RCB register a 21-run win against Daredevils.

Pant, on the other hand, is the only player whose knock features in the top five list of the highest individual scores in a losing cause. The left-hander's 128 not out steered Delhi Daredevils (rechristened Delhi Capitals now) to 187/5 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He hit 15 fours and seven sixes in his 63-ball knock. But his maiden IPL hundred went in vain as SRH comfortably chased down the target in 18.5 overs with the loss of just one wicket. (Getty Images)

4. AB de Villiers (129 not out vs Gujarat Lions in 2016)

AB de Villiers also occupies the fourth position on this list, and this time the victim of his assault was Gujarat Lions in 2016. de Villiers came out all guns blazing, taking a mere 52 deliveries to make an unbeaten 129 that included 12 sixes and 10 fours. He again found an able partner in skipper Virat Kohli, as the two forged a 229-run partnership to power Royal Challengers to 248/3 and set up a 144-run victory over Gujarat - the second largest victory in the IPL in terms of runs.
