MUMBAI: Vankenna Chamundeswaranath was on Thursday voted to the IPL Governing Council as the representative of the India Cricketers' Association (ICA).
A former Andhra Pradesh first-class player, Chamundeswaranath, who played 44 FC matches in which he scored 1818 runs@26.34, beat Harvinder Singh, an ex-Punjab first-class cricketer, by a margin of 317-228.
The elections were conducted by the BCCI's election officer, AK Joti. The polls were conducted by e-voting on Wednesday and Thursday.
Chamundeswaranath has replaced former India left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha, who was the earlier ICA representative in the
IPL GC, in the post.
The 64-year-old Chamundeswaranath has been the secretary of the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) and was the Indian team's manager for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20. A right hand middle-order batsman, he played for Andhra between 1978-1992, leading the team in 13 matches.
In 2013, Chamundeswaranath became a co-owner of the Indian Badminton League franchise Mumbai Masters, in partnership with former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar and actor Nagarjuna.
