But the real aura was in his bat. De Villiers, battling a hamstring issue, played through visible discomfort to score a flawless 120* off just 60 deliveries.
His knock included 12 4s and 7 6s, bringing up his century in just 47 balls.
Supported by JP Duminy’s 50*, South Africa chased down 196 with 19 balls to spare, maintaining their unbeaten streak in the tournament.
This was de Villiers’ third century of the tournament, earning him both Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament honours.
