KOLKATA: The Football Players' Association of India (FPAI) on Saturday nominated Subhas Singh, Sunil Chhetri and Onyeka Okolie Odafa among others in different categories for the first FPAI Award Night to be held on December 13.
The FPAI has chosen four categories - Best Young Player, Best Foreign Player, Best Indian Player and Best Coach - where the performance of the previous season will be considered, FPAI president Bhaichung Bhutia said.
Being the president of the body, Indian football captain Bhutia has kept him away from the list.
"Being FPAI president and key member of its decision-making body, I should not be a part of it," he said.
"We have tried to model this on English PFA as I was impressed with the help and guidance they gave me during my stay in England. Hopefully we could be as effective as English PFA in future," Bhutia said.
The venue of the award night is yet to be finalised.
The nominees: Best Young Player: Subhas Singh, Rakesh Masih, Baljit Sahni.
Best Foreign Player: Onyeka Okolie Odafa, Jose Barreto, Junior Elijah Obagbemiro.
Best Indian Player: Sunil Chhetri, NS Manju, Anthony Pereira.
Best Coach: Karim Bencherifa, David Booth, Zoran Djordjevic.
