Mitch Evans on keeping Dan Ticktum at bay at Madrid E-Prix: “I was very frustrated in the car"
Mitch Evans secured his third podium of the season in Madrid, finishing second at the Circuito del Jarama. He was beaten by his Jaguar TCS Racing teammate Antonio Felix da Costa, as the team opted to allow Da Costa to take the win. Evans has now revealed that he was not attempting to overtake Antonio, but was instead focused on holding off Cupra Kiro’s Dan Ticktum.
Evans told FormulaE.com: “Hats off to my strategy guys. They called it, and I obviously had to execute it, but I had a clear plan from them and, yeah, that’s what gave me that kind of advantage towards the end. I was able to use it through the pit window, and the energy advantage really helped out today. So, yeah, very happy.”
“At the end, I wasn’t trying to pass him (Antonio). I was told I had to stay behind. I was just trying to protect myself from Dan (Ticktum) behind. I was very frustrated in the car, but I obeyed the order, so… yeah, it is what it is. The team got the result they wanted,” he added.

Evans was also among several drivers who found the Circuito del Jarama particularly challenging. Speaking about the difficulties he faced, he said, “It’s a great track, very old school. Yeah, it’s a bit of a hidden gem here. Most of the day wasn’t too great in terms of pace. I really struggled in the wet, and even yesterday in the dry we struggled. So, yeah, to get creative with the strategy, and we really nailed it today.”
Antonio Felix da Costa and Mitch Evans secured a 1-2 finish at the Madrid E-Prix. Evans currently sits third in the Formula E Drivers’ Standings with 65 points, followed closely by Da Costa in fourth with 64 points. The drivers will return to racing after a break of over a month in Berlin, with the double-header scheduled from 1-3 May.
