India came from behind twice to hold defending champions Japan to a thrilling 2-2 draw in their second pool match of the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 on Saturday. Navneet Kaur struck from a penalty corner in the final moments of the match to restore parity and earn a valuable point for the Indian side. Japan took the lead early, with Hiroka Murayama scoring in the 10th minute. India responded in the 30th minute as Rutaja Dadaso Pisal found the net to make it 1-1 at halftime. The second half was just as gripping. Chiko Fujibayashi put Japan ahead again in the 58th minute, but Navneet Kaur’s last-gasp strike ensured the match ended in a draw. India, who started the tournament with an 11-0 victory over Thailand, will face Singapore in their final pool B match on September 8. Both teams remain unbeaten in the group stage after big wins in their openers. Japan had defeated Singapore 9-0 in their opening match. Despite missing veteran goalkeeper Savita Punia and ace drag-flicker Deepika due to injuries, India showed tremendous resilience. Captain Salima Tete led from the front, while goalkeeper Bichu Devi made several crucial saves.
