Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo may soon reunite with a familiar teammate if recent transfer talk turns into reality. Reports say the Al Nassr forward has asked his club to try signing Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United during the upcoming summer transfer window. The two players have shared the field many times for both club and country, and Ronaldo reportedly believes Fernandes could strengthen the Saudi side.

Right now, Fernandes is still the captain at Manchester United. However, questions about his future have been circulating since last summer. Several clubs from Saudi Arabia showed interest in him before, but he chose to remain at Old Trafford. Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes know each other’s game very well. When they both played for Manchester United, they appeared together in 51 matches, combining for three goals. Their partnership has been stronger for the Portuguese national team, where they have played 67 matches together and combined for six goals.

Because of that connection, Ronaldo reportedly believes Fernandes would fit naturally into Al Nassr’s squad. The Saudi club already has several well known international players, and bringing in Fernandes would add creativity in midfield.

Fernandes’ contract with Manchester United currently runs until 2027. Still, transfer talk continues because clubs could try to sign him for a large fee this summer rather than wait until later in his contract.

Al Nassr may not be the only team interested. Reports also say Al Hilal, another major Saudi club, could compete for his signature.

Last year, Fernandes openly spoke about the possibility of leaving Manchester United. In an interview with Canal 11 in December, he explained that he had chances to move but chose to stay.

He said, “I could have left like many people do and said: ‘I want to leave, I don’t want to train, I just want to leave for €20m or €30m, so they pay me more on the other side.’ But I never did that. I never felt in a position to do that, because I felt that the empathy and affection I had for the club were the same.” Fernandes also admitted that some moments around the situation were difficult for him.

He said, “From the club’s side, I felt a bit like, ‘if you leave, it’s not so bad for us.’ It hurts me a lot. More than hurting, it makes me sad because I’m a player they have nothing to criticise about. I’m always available, I always play, good or bad. I give my all.”

Since joining Manchester United from Sporting CP in January 2020, Fernandes has been one of the club’s most productive players. He has recorded 105 goals and 101 assists in 318 matches across competitions.

For now, he remains Manchester United’s captain. But with another transfer window approaching and interest growing from Saudi clubs, the story around his future may continue to develop.
