Taylor Fritz walked into the Australian Open as the world No. 9 and one of America’s biggest tennis stars. But when the tournament ended for him, he did not walk away as the top earner in his own household. That title went to his girlfriend, Morgan Riddle.
Fritz, 28, earned €277,000 (£240,000) after reaching the round of 16 at the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne. However, Riddle, also 28, made more money during the same event through brand deals and online growth. According to Bild, she earned around €290,000 (£251,000) during the tournament.
Fritz lost on Monday to Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets, ending his Australian Open run earlier than hoped. While the loss hurt on court, the couple still came out ahead financially. Riddle herself joked before the event that Fritz needed to go beyond the round of 16, or she would out-earn him. That is exactly what happened, turning them into what she proudly calls a “dual-income household.”
How Morgan Riddle outearned Taylor Fritz during the Australian Open
Morgan Riddle was not just cheering from the stands in Melbourne. She was working. The American model and influencer gained more than 7,000 new Instagram followers during the Australian Open and now has close to 500,000 followers in total. Her growing reach helped her secure high-paying brand deals in fashion and beauty.
Riddle has appeared on the cover of Vogue and has worked with major brands across fashion and cosmetics. She has also partnered with events like Wimbledon and has been involved in Formula One projects. These deals helped push her earnings past Fritz’s prize money during the tournament.
Speaking openly about their relationship, Riddle said, “It’s almost a competition between us at Grand Slams and other tournaments to see who earns more money during the tournament.” She added, “He’s always encouraged and supported me. That’s how we became a dual-income household.”
Morgan Riddle has also drawn attention for her outfits in Melbourne and her courtside presence. She first went viral at the US Open while cheering Fritz in high heels. At the Australian Open, she posted a photo with the caption, “This is my excited face,” which quickly gained traction.
Not everyone loves the trend. Former top-20 player Daria Saville questioned why influencers receive more brand deals than players. She said, “Female tennis players aren’t getting these advertising deals. It’s actually the players’ wives who fit the aesthetic image better than us sweaty tennis players.” Saville added, “That video of me watching my husband play was more successful than all the other videos from my life as a tennis player.”
