The interest clearly went up from last year as well. The 2026 numbers were about 8% higher than the 12.71 million viewers who watched McIlroy’s playoff win in 2025. At one point during Sunday’s round, viewership crossed 20 million. That peak is the biggest since 2013, when Adam Scott won and Tiger Woods finished tied for fourth. Even Saturday saw a jump, with 8.109 million viewers tuning in, the best third-round number since 2019.

McIlroy’s performance at Masters Tournament added more weight to his career. He finished the week at 12-under and won by one shot. This victory gave him six major titles, putting him level with names like Phil Mickelson, Nick Faldo, and Lee Trevino.

What stands out even more is his record at Augusta. Winning the Masters in back-to-back years is rare. Only Jack Nicklaus, Faldo, and Woods had done it before. McIlroy also became the first European to achieve this. Seve Ballesteros, another big name from Europe, had won here before, but never in consecutive years.

There is also a strong financial side to this win. McIlroy earned $4.5 million from this victory. His total earnings at Augusta have now crossed $13 million, which puts him ahead of both Woods and Mickelson in that list.

Even after reaching these milestones, McIlroy is not thinking about slowing down. He said, “I just won my sixth major and I feel like I’m in a really good spot with my game and my body. I don’t want to put a number on it. It’s just a part of the journey. I still have things I want to achieve.”

He still has goals left, including an Olympic medal. But with this win, his position among the top players in golf has become even stronger.
