Kyle Busch warns Tony Stewart gives a reality check on NASCAR’s aggressive racing and generational shift
According to Kyle Busch, the NASCAR that Tony Stewart is going back to is a far more reckless one. After coming back from the two-time Cup champion has a stark, seven-word piece of advice for the returning icon that speaks volumes about his lost faith in the new generation.
In a past interview, addressed how the current generation of drivers have more of a ruthless attitude while racing, which often results in crashes. He gave an example that demonstrated how outside of the Cup Series, drivers often engage in strong battles and aggressive driving, which frequently ends their races ending as early. As Stewart gets ready to prepare for his return.
According to a Tuesday announcement from Kaulig Racing, Tony Stewart, a three-time NASCAR Cup Series winner and former team owner, will compete at the Daytona International Speedway in the Truck Series, running the season-opening race on the 13th of February. Stewart has won two races in the series, but this will be his first time competing in it in more than 20 years. The #25 RAM Truck will be driven by him.
However, in the series, Busch is a much more well-known face. In addition to winning the season-opening event more than ten years ago, he won the race at Atlanta in the series last year. He has some tips for Stewart that simply make more sense.
Busch stated, expressing Stewart's return. “I need to get him one of my shirts that I wore there a few years ago. Where this is the most expensive day of the year for the owners.”
It's significantly understandable that racing has undergone major changes since Tony Stewart last ran in the Truck Series, and the drivers have become more aggressive. As a result, Busch made a caustic seven-word remark regarding Stewart's comeback.
“I hope he doesn’t plan on finishing,” Kyle Busch said.
This could be a difficult task for Stewart, who hasn’t run a race in any of NASCAR’s premier series since 2016. However, being a full-time NHRA participant and team manager has given him a new kind of motorsport experience. So, while he hasn’t exactly been around stock car racing, Stewart can still make for a formidable competitor in a race.
There are other reasons for this, but it's quite clear that NASCAR racing has been more competitive over the years, especially in the Truck Series. The playoff and stage championship format, which was in place until the 2025 season, is one of the primary problems. This format did not reward consistency as well as it did race wins. The result? Drivers were focused more on winning races, by any means, than actually being consistent on the track. This has been noted in all of NASCAR’s premier series, not just Truck.
Furthermore, the current generation of Trucks is not aerodynamically very efficient. They struggle in dirty air, and so the overtakes can be rather challenging and unclean.
