Mikaela Shiffrin wins record-equalling sixth Grand Crystal Globe after dominating Milano Cortina Winter Olympics 2026

Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin ended the 2025-26 Alpine Skiing World Cup season on a historic note. The American star secured her sixth overall Crystal Globe title after finishing 11th in the women’s giant slalom at the World Cup Finals in Lillehammer. Her consistent performances throughout the season helped her collect 1,410 points. This placed her ahead of Germany’s Emma Aicher, who finished second overall with 1,323 points after a crucial final race.

Shiffrin’s victory came despite not finishing on the podium in the final event. Her closest rival Aicher needed a win to challenge for the title but could only finish 12th after a late mistake. This result confirmed Shiffrin as the overall champion once again. The season also included her remarkable return to Olympic glory, where she won a gold medal in slalom at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games.

Mikaela Shiffrin delivered one of the most dominant seasons in Alpine skiing history. She equalled the record of Austrian legend Annemarie Moser-Pröhl by winning her sixth overall Crystal Globe. Shiffrin had earlier claimed the title in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023. Her latest triumph further strengthened her position as the most successful skier of all time.

The American skier showed exceptional consistency throughout the season. She dominated the slalom discipline by winning nine out of ten races. This incredible run played a major role in building an unassailable lead in the standings. Shiffrin now holds a record 110 World Cup wins and 168 podium finishes, numbers that continue to set her apart from the rest of the field.


Her success was not limited to the World Cup circuit. During the break for the Winter Olympics, she delivered another top performance. She claimed her third Olympic gold medal in slalom. This marked her first Olympic title since 2018.

Canada’s Valerie Grenier won the final giant slalom race of the season, recording her third career victory. Norway’s Mina Fürst Holtmann finished second, while Austria’s Julia Scheib secured third place. However, all eyes remained on Shiffrin and her historic achievement.

Reflecting on her season, Shiffrin said the title meant a lot to her and her team. She said that the trophy represented months of effort, teamwork, and determination.
