Novak Djokovic reacted with excitement after Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo delivered a huge night in the NBA, scoring 83 points against the Washington Wizards. The massive performance helped the Miami Heat win 150–129 and pushed Adebayo past Kobe Bryant’s famous 81-point game, placing him second on the list of highest single-game scoring performances behind Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 points. Many well-known basketball names quickly shared their thoughts after the game. Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, Washington Wizards head coach Brian Keefe, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, and NBA forward Kevin Durant all reacted to the historic moment.
Tennis legend Novak Djokovic also joined the celebration. The 24-time Grand Slam champion shared a photo of Adebayo on his Instagram Stories and congratulated him on the historic night.
Djokovic wrote: “History!! Congrats 🙌💪👏.”
Adebayo’s scoring night quickly became one of the biggest talking points in the sports world, drawing reactions not just from basketball but from athletes across different sports.
Novak Djokovic joins Erik Spoelstra, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant in reacting to Bam Adebayo’s 83 point game that passed Kobe Bryant
After the game, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra explained how special the performance felt from the bench.
He said:
“I didn’t dare even think about taking him out.”
Washington Wizards coach Brian Keefe admitted the game changed once Adebayo caught fire late.
Keefe said:
“In the fourth quarter it turned into not a real basketball game.”
Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo also shared a strong message about why the number itself will always be remembered.
Antetokounmpo said:
“It doesn’t matter how you get there. Like 30 years from now, nobody’s going to remember how many free throws he shot. I don’t think I remember how many shots Kobe had or how many free throws he made or 3s. All you remember is 81. Wilt, 100. So at the end of the day, he got 83 points.”
NBA star Kevin Durant also reacted after seeing the numbers from the game.
Durant said:
“I couldn’t believe it when I was hearing it in real time. Congratulations to Bam. I looked at his stats, it’s pretty crazy. 40 shots, 40 free throws, 20 3s. To pass Kobe as the second highest scorer in the history of the game, congrats to him. Something we’ll talk about forever.”
Djokovic’s reaction also reminded many fans of his connection to Kobe Bryant.
When Djokovic won the 2023 US Open, he paid tribute to Bryant by wearing a special shirt honoring the NBA legend’s famous “Mamba mentality.”
Speaking to Sky Sports after that win, Djokovic opened up about their friendship.
Djokovic said:
“Kobe was a close friend. We chatted a lot about the winner’s mentality when I was struggling with injury and trying to make my comeback and work my way back to the top of the game. He was one of the people that I relied on the most. He was always there for any kind of counsel, advice and support in the most friendly way.”
Right now, Novak Djokovic is competing at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where he is set to face Jack Draper in the fourth round.
