James Harden made the 2,974th three pointers of his career during the game against Utah Jazz today. He made the fabled shot that put him over Ray Allen with 6:38 remaining in the first. Now, James Harden stands at second on the all-time three pointers made list. Warriors guard Stephen Curry occupies the number one spot with 3,728 career threes.
Before Harden passed Ray, he joked about how he would consider himself first on the list, since Steph doesn’t count. This is a compliment to Steph, as Harden is suggesting that Curry is an anomaly and should not be compared to the others. After surpassing Allen, Harden had some heartwarming words for his former Oklahoma City teammates, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Let’s take a look at what he had to say:
“When I got there, they had the blueprint of how to work. … All I did was just fall right in line. … Those three years really helped me in my NBA career. When I got traded to Houston, I knew I was gonna be successful. … Shoutout to KD, shoutout to Russ, and the whole Oklahoma City organization.”
Oklahoma City Thunder could’ve made history with Durant, Westbrook and Harden
After getting Kevin Durant in 2007 and Russell Westbrook in 2008, OKC was also able to land James Harden during the 2009 draft. By this time, Westbrook and Durant were already on their way to becoming superstars, and Harden was also quick to find his feet in the league.
If OKC had maintained their main core of Harden, Westbrook and Durant, the NBA history books might’ve been a lot different today. Unfortunately, Harden was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2012 and Durant left for the Golden State Warriors a few years after that.
