Who is Kon Knueppel? Everything to know about Charlotte Hornets rookie sensation as he eases injury fears after ankle scare
After playing collegiate basketball at Duke, Kon Knueppel, a highly anticipated rookie professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets (NBA), was selected fourth overall in the 2025 draft. His remarkable three-point shooting made him the fastest player in NBA history to accomplish 100 career threes in just 29 games in late 2025. Prior to a recent ankle sprain, he averaged amazing averages for a rookie.
This season, Knueppel has had a significant influence on the Hornets. He is shooting an outstanding 42.8% from three-point range and averaging 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 31 games. He has swiftly established himself as a key member of Charlotte's offence thanks to his playmaking, scoring, and spacing, much ahead of any projected schedule.
Just a few days after leaving Friday night's game against the Orlando Magic due to a right ankle sprain, rookie star Kon Knueppel was shown walking normally and without a boot or crutches, giving Charlotte Hornets fans a sense of comfort.
One of Charlotte's most important players was immediately concerned after the 20-year-old scored 16 points in just 15 minutes before leaving for the locker room. Even though the Hornets went on to win 120-105, the focus soon turned from the outcome to Knueppel's health, demonstrating how essential he has become to the team's offensive identity.
He is just behind NBA rookie Cooper Flagg, who has 625 points, with 597 total points. He is one of the most complete rookies in the league because to his rebounds and assists.
But according to the Hornets, the fourth overall pick sprained his right ankle. Knueppel landed awkwardly on his ankle after jumping to try to prevent a shot under the basket. The Hornets understand how important he is, and their careful approach shows how much they value maintaining his rookie campaign over taking a chance on long-term setbacks.
According to Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer, Knueppel's X-ray findings were negative, according to Hornets head coach Charles Lee.
After losing rookie forward Kon Knueppel to a right ankle injury in the first half, the Charlotte Hornets defeated the Orlando Magic 120-105 on Friday night thanks to LaMelo Ball's 22 points and seven rebounds.
The club is continuing to take a careful, day-to-day approach, but postgame X-rays showed no structural damage. Due to cautious management and the emphasis on avoiding setbacks that could ruin Knueppel's exceptional debut season, his full recovery and return to the starting lineup are still unknown.
Hornets head coach Charles Lee said:
“As of right now, it’s a right ankle sprain and we’ll work day-to-day to see how he responds to treatment.. I’m glad to hear that it is where it is, it’s like the best of the worst case,” “We’re going to continue to just evaluate him.”
Although Knueppel's injury on Friday kept him out of action for a while, his weekend activities gave him hope. He went to Myrtle Beach to see his three brothers play in the yearly high school basketball competition known as the Beach Ball Classic.
