NEW DELHI: Rahul Dravid has made known his displeasure at being called ''The Wall'' of the Indian team by the media.

Why does he dislike the term?

"It reminds me of the inevitable coming down of a wall," Dravid said in a chat with women journalists here.
"I can see you people (media) giving headlines like ''The Wall is crumbling'' a few years from now."

Dravid, though, is conscious of the reasons why he earned the sobriquet and the responsibilities that come with it. "Maybe I got the nickname because I bat for long sessions," he said. "It does bring certain responsibilities with it."

Dravid said he feels more relaxed and settled after marriage with Vijeta, so what if his female fan following has gone down. "I have been married for a year now and I must admit that my female fan following has drastically reduced ever since. Jokes apart, I think lady luck has played a big part in my game. Maybe it has something to do with the sanctity of marriage."

On pressure caused by constant media attention, Dravid said, "I am not comfortable with it, but it is part of our life. There is a lot of pressure on our families, who have to sacrifice a lot for us to be successful. We get accolades but many times our families face the negative side of it. Life changes once you are successful and one has to change with it.

"If I could help it, I would just want to play cricket and not get attention as a person. The real challenge is in not letting all the attention affect your cricket."

Dravid also answered questions on the amount of modelling cricketers did for the products that they endorsed.

"It would be unfair to say that we shoot commercials at the cost of our cricket," Dravid said. "Shooting ads takes just about a day. I don''t think any cricketer would take on commercial assignments if they were hurting his game."

It was one ''zooter'' that zapped Rahul Dravid. "How does it feel to be the most successful Indian vice-captain?" Most successful captain is OK; that honour belongs to Ganguly. But the most successful vice-captain sounds "strange".

"It is a strange statistic to have but I can only say that the last four years have been the most successful of my career. I am now part of a team that is developing into a very good unit," he said.

Dravid said he has no problems with Tendulkar over the declaration that left the latter stranded at 194. "Retrospect is a beautiful thing. If I had realised the match would have ended on the fourth day, I would have let him complete his double hundred. But it is no issue in the team," said Dravid.

Adding later, "The way you (the media) bring it up all the time, I guess it''s a decision that will always haunt me."
