KANPUR: As rains relented on Monday, the Indians sweated it out under a harsh sun as they geared up for the historic 500th Test, which they will play here against New Zealand. The Indians made most of the sunshine and practised in batches for nearly five hours at the Green Park stadium. To counter New Zealand's left-arm new ball bowlers -
Trent Boult and Neil Wagner - the team management took the services of
Pradeep Sangwan and Aniket Chaudhary who bowled long spells in the nets. Local chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav was also kept busy by the Team India batsmen.
As for the visitors, apart from pacemen Boult and Wagner, left-arm spinners Mark Craig and
Mitchell Santner also bowled in the nets. India's key men - Virat Kohli and R Ashwin - had long sessions. The skipper looked composed and confident as ever, playing some effortless drives and pulls. Ashwin and his spin partner Amit Mishra braved the heat and humidity but left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja was conspicuous by his absence. With competition on for the opening slots, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul and Murli Vijay used the occasion to get into the groove.
