ESPN insider Dan Graziano sheds light on why the Pittsburgh Steelers continue waiting for Aaron Rodgers despite growing uncertainty

The Pittsburgh Steelers still do not have a clear answer from Aaron Rodgers, and the long wait has started drawing more attention across the NFL. Several fans and analysts questioned why Pittsburgh seems comfortable waiting this long rather than moving toward a younger option as training camp approaches.


Recently, ESPN insider Dan Graziano offered insight into the situation while discussing Pittsburgh’s quarterback plans. According to Graziano, the Steelers believe Rodgers still gives them their best chance to compete after what he showed during the 2025 season.


“The answer here seems to be that they liked what they got out of Aaron Rodgers last season, believe he can do it again and thought that running it back with him was their best course of action," Graziano wrote. "Rodgers, of course, has yet to actually re-sign in Pittsburgh, and no one knows what the holdup is. But they had Rodgers last year, they're familiar with his quirks, and they seem fine with giving him whatever time he needs to give them an answer.


“No team seems to enjoy its status quo as much as the Steelers do.” Graziano wrote in his ESPN report.

Graziano also pointed out that the Steelers already understand Aaron Rodgers’ personality and routine, which likely explains why the franchise remains patient despite the delay. Pittsburgh does not appear interested in forcing the process or in publicly pressuring the veteran quarterback to make a quick decision.


Still, the current situation continues to create debate around the franchise. Rodgers helped keep the Steelers competitive last season, but the team once again finished around the middle of the AFC playoff race. That has led some fans to question whether Pittsburgh should continue chasing short-term stability instead of building toward the future.


For now, though, the Steelers seem comfortable staying the course. Until Rodgers officially decides on his future, questions about Pittsburgh’s quarterback situation will continue to follow the team throughout the offseason.
