Former NFL star Vernon Davis accused of assault during argument over abortion, court documents reveal

Former NFL tight end Vernon Davis is back in headlines but for all the wrong reasons. According to a criminal complaint, a woman has accused Davis of physically attacking her during an argument over her pregnancy and abortion last year.

This isn’t some social media rumor, the complaint was officially filed on January 8, 2026, and it alleges things that, if true, are very serious. A warrant for Davis’s arrest on assault and battery charges was issued as a result and he’s scheduled to appear in court this February.

Here’s what the complaint says happened

According to the legal filing:

• The woman says the incident started on May 31, 2025, at Davis’s home during an argument about her pregnancy.
• She claims Davis threw magazines and books at her, allegedly hitting her during the dispute.
• At one point, she says Davis offered her $10,000, although it’s not clear what that offer was tied to.
• The woman says Davis stopped throwing things when she pulled out her phone to record him.
• A second argument is also mentioned on June 7, where she claims Davis slapped her and told her “not to question him.”
• The complaint notes another prior physical altercation that left visible bruises, and that there’s an open assault and strangulation case tied to that earlier event.

This is all based on the accuser’s statements in the complaint and Davis has not been convicted of any crime at this stage.




A judge signed off on the arrest warrant on January 8 after prosecutors reviewed the complaint.

Davis has a court date set for February 2026, that’s when the legal process starts playing out publicly.

Remember: a criminal complaint is just an allegation until a court determines otherwise. That means Davis is legally presumed innocent until there’s a conviction. Davis was a high draft pick (No. 6 overall in 2006) and had a successful NFL career as a tight end with teams like the 49ers, Broncos, and Commanders. After retiring from football in 2020, he moved into acting and other ventures.

His name still draws attention because he’s a recognizable former pro athlete but this situation is completely outside his sports legacy.
