The Kansas City Chiefs already know what celebrity attention can do to a football franchise. Ever since
Taylor Swift started attending games to support
Travis Kelce in 2023, the team’s reach exploded beyond sports. TV ratings climbed, jersey sales jumped, and the
NFL suddenly found itself dominating pop culture conversations every week.
Now, former NFL MVP Cam Newton believes the Chiefs could tap into that same energy again if they sign Stefon Diggs. This time, the spotlight would fall on Cardi B, whose relationship with the veteran wide receiver has remained in the headlines throughout 2025 and 2026.
Cam Newton sees another celebrity moment brewing around Stefon Diggs and Cardi B
Cam Newton made his thoughts clear during the May 2026 episode of his “4th&1” show while discussing Rashee Rice’s latest off-field trouble and the Kansas City Chiefs’ need for another receiver. Rashee Rice recently began serving a 30-day jail sentence tied to his probation violation from the March 2024 Dallas multi-car crash case. His absence from offseason activities immediately fueled fresh rumours around Kansas City, adding another veteran target.
That is when Cam Newton brought up Stefon Diggs. “One man’s mishap, another man’s opportunity,” Cam Newton said on the show. “Andy Reid, brother, go out there and get Stefon.”
Then he connected the conversation to the NFL’s celebrity boom around Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. “The star that took over the NFL in 2024 was who? Taylor Swift. Who took over the NFL in 2025? Cardi B. Hell yeah. You got two shooting stars,” Newton added.
The comparison may sound dramatic, but the Kansas City Chiefs have already seen the business side of celebrity power. Apex Marketing Group previously reported that Taylor Swift generated more than $330 million in brand value for the NFL and the Chiefs after her appearances at games alongside Travis Kelce.
That is why Cam Newton believes Stefon Diggs and Cardi B could create another massive wave around the franchise. Cardi B remains one of the biggest music stars in the world with more than 160 million Instagram followers, while Diggs still carries strong name value despite entering his age-32 season.
Still, there is another layer to this story. Stefon Diggs and Cardi B’s relationship has looked shaky in recent months. The couple reportedly split after Super Bowl LX before reconciliation rumors surfaced again during a Mother’s Day charity event hosted by Diggs earlier this month. Even with that uncertainty, the idea of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Stefon Diggs, Taylor Swift, and Cardi B all connected to one team sounds exactly like the kind of headline the NFL would welcome.
