Chloe Kim is stepping back into competition with the weight of expectation firmly behind her. Another Olympic cycle is underway, the snow is calling again, and the pressure that once overwhelmed her has not magically disappeared. What has changed is how openly she talks about it. Kim is no longer hiding from the difficult parts of her journey. She is naming them, owning them, and learning how to live with them.
As the 2026 Winter Olympics approach, Kim’s story is no longer defined only by gold medals and flawless runs. It is shaped by reflection, therapy, and a clearer understanding of herself. Her recent comments reveal an athlete who has learned that strength does not always look loud or fearless. Sometimes, it looks like asking for help and choosing to keep going anyway.
Chloe Kim opens up about mental health and her bond with Myles Garrett
Kim has spoken candidly about how her mental health struggles intensified after the 2022 Beijing Olympics. She explained, “It was something I struggled with during COVID. I think it was, what, 2021 at the time? I think I tried to do things by, I don’t know, getting into self-care and whatnot. But my mental health got really bad, honestly, a couple of years ago.”
That period forced her to confront years of pressure she had carried since childhood. “I had to hit rock bottom to see that I needed to take care of myself,” she said, crediting intensive therapy for helping her find balance again.
Kim also described the anxiety that still surfaces before a season begins. “Sometimes I panic, and I’m like ‘What if I wake up tomorrow and don’t know how to snowboard?’” she admitted. Yet the fear fades once she returns to the snow. “But the minute I get my snowboard on, I’m like, ‘Oh, why was I being so dramatic? I’m totally fine.’”
Her support system now extends beyond sport. When asked about dating Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett, Kim shared how unexpected the relationship was. “I had no idea who he was. Like, zero idea,” she said with a laugh. That has since changed.
“Honestly, Myles is such an incredible athlete. I’m constantly inspired and in awe of him and how hard he works and how incredibly kind he is.” For Kim, that kindness matters most. “I’m really lucky to be part of his life and lucky that he’s part of mine. Yeah, we’re happy.”
As she prepares for another Olympic run, Kim’s honesty feels as impactful as any medal.
