Jerry Jones voices unease over DaRon Bland’s long-term outlook as Cowboys confirm second foot surgery on $92 million cornerback
The Dallas Cowboys are once again facing an unfortunate situation, with one of their most important defensive stars working through another serious injury. Cornerback DaRon Bland, a proven playmaker and recent record-setter for the team, is coming off his second surgery on the same foot in less than two years.
While the team has offered a positive medical update, owner and general manager Jerry Jones made it clear that the injury is weighing heavily on his mind and showed concern about it happening on the same foot. The Cowboys confirmed this week that Bland underwent surgery on his left foot, performed by Indianapolis-based specialist David Porter.
Bland’s recent history of injuries only adds to the worrying situation. After fracturing his leg during training camp ahead of the 2024 season, he was limited to seven games. Even though he was available and appeared in 12 games this season, he ended up on injured reserve late, while also missing early action due to a separate right foot issue.
Still, Bland managed to make a big impact on the team. He recorded 74 tackles, six pass breakups, and returned an interception for a touchdown, continuing the ball-hawking form that once saw him set an NFL record with five pick-sixes in 2023. Those flashes remind Dallas why they committed to him with a four-year, $92 million extension through 2029.
According to an ESPN insider, Bland is expected to be back with the team during the offseason, with a focus on being fully healthy by training camp in July. The hope is for him to rest now following his surgery for a full reset. Despite questions arising regarding his availability among fans, the Cowboys have all the confidence in their cornerback to come back stronger than ever.

Repeated foot injuries leave Dallas balancing optimism with caution
Speaking at his end-of-season press conference, Jerry Jones expressed his worry, saying, “I’m not a doctor… but I don’t like that at all.I don’t like the sound of that. You have to watch feet, relative to the future.” Foot injuries have always been difficult to manage, especially for defensive backs who rely on them for sharp cuts, acceleration, and balance.Bland’s recent history of injuries only adds to the worrying situation.
