The Washington Commanders may already hold a valuable top-10 draft pick, but that might not be enough to satisfy growing expectations around
Jayden Daniels. With pressure building to accelerate the young quarterback’s development, one bold idea is starting to gain attention. It involves sacrificing future assets to land one of the most explosive offensive prospects in the 2026 class.
Draft analyst Rob Rang has stirred debate by suggesting Washington should climb all the way to No. 3 overall. The goal is clear. Secure a dynamic playmaker who can immediately reshape the offense. It is a risky move, especially for a roster that still has visible gaps. Yet the argument centers on urgency. Daniels needs support now, not later.
A bold gamble to unlock Jayden Daniels’ full potential
“If the Commanders are really serious about protecting Jayden Daniels, they’ll insulate him with a dynamic runner and won’t risk losing the opportunity to draft him by waiting until they are on the clock at No. 7 overall,” Rang wrote.
“With just six draft picks in 2026 (including no second-round selection), Washington would have to be bold, indeed, to make this move, likely having to trade not only this year’s first round pick but next year’s, as well.”
That player is Jeremiyah Love, widely viewed as the most electric running back available. His production speaks loudly. His skill set speaks even louder.
According to Mel Kiper Jr., “Love reminds me a lot of Reggie Bush. The 20-year-old has vision and burst between the tackles and to the outside, and he can break tackles with ease (60 forced missed tackles on the 2025 season). Once he gets into space, he can take it to the house with his 4.36 breakaway speed too. But Love isn’t only an outstanding runner. He also is a high-impact pass catcher. An NFL team will be able to flank him out wide and create a whole other dimension of the offense.”
That versatility could be transformative. Lance Zierlein reinforced that view, stating, “Three-phase running back capable of stressing defenses with big-play speed and untapped pass-catching value. He’s a talented route runner and pass catcher who can work from the slot and mismatch linebackers. Love is a three-down, scheme-independent player who would benefit from a complementary back to preserve his big-play ability.”
Still, reality tempers the excitement. Washington lacks draft depth and has defensive needs that cannot be ignored. Trading up would signal a win-now mindset. Whether that gamble pays off depends on how much the franchise believes Love can change everything around Daniels.
