1 dead, another injured as lift plunges in Varanasi
VARANASI: A 22-year-old man died, and another sustained serious injuries after a lift allegedly plunged at a madrasa in Varanasi, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place late Tuesday night in the Rewri Talab area, under the Bhelupur police station limits, during a programme at the madrasa’s community hall which had a large gathering.
The deceased identified as Asif Adil (22), and the other injured identified as Hasnain Raza. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gaurav Kumar said the two young men were descending in the lift when it suddenly lost control and fell to the ground. "Asif Adil (22) died on the spot, while the other youth, identified as Hasnain Raza, sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to the trauma centre for treatment," he added. The ACP also stated that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident, including any possible negligence in the lift’s maintenance. "Strict action will be taken against those found responsible," he said.
