According to the NHL, Cayden Primeau signed a three-year, $2.67 million contract with the Montreal Canadiens as a restricted free agent on Sept. 8, 2022. The goalie was 1-7-1 with a 4.62 goals-against average and .868 save percentage in 12 games (nine starts) for Montreal the prior season.
After going 21-2-2 with a 1.96 GAA, .927 save percentage, and two shutouts in 26 games for Laval, Primeau was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes on June 30, 2025. He was traded to Carolina by Montreal for a 7th-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. He claimed off waivers by Toronto from Carolina, October 6, 2025. Later, Carolina waived off from Toronto on November 8, 2025, for the AHL.
