As the New York Rangers are all set to lock horns against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, the latest update on Jonathan Quick could significantly impact the New York Rangers goaltending situation as the team heads into a critical stretch this season.

The goaltender, who was previously listed day-to-day due to his lower-body injury, was seen attending the practice session before the match on Wednesday, hinting at his possible return to the game. But speculations are doing the rounds about whether Quick will join the lineup today.

In the 2025–26 season, Quick has played 23 games, recording 5 wins and 2 shutouts, with a 3.18 goals-against average and an .889 save percentage. These numbers are noticeably below his career standards and reflect the struggles the veteran netminder has faced this season.

Apart from this, in his entire career, Quick has played 827 career games, registering 409 wins and 65 shutouts, along with 2.51 career goals-against average and a .910 save percentage, establishing himself as one of the prominent goaltenders in the league.

Meanwhile, head coach Mike Sullivan also confirmed that the veteran goaltender is not yet ready to rejoin the lineup, saying the netminder is “not there yet” but is “getting closer.” Though Rangers got a positive sign, avoiding a big injury blow to the lineup, Sullivan made one thing clear that the finish line still isn't here.


Earlier, Quick exited practice early on Sunday due to an upper-body issue and has missed at least two games, including Monday's matchup against Ottawa and Sunday's home game versus Winnipeg. In his absence, the Rangers recalled Dylan Garand from AHL Hartford as backup support.

According to the NHL, Jonathan Quick signed with the New York Rangers as a free agent on July 1, 2023. He recorded an 11-7-2 record with a 3.17 goals-against average and a .893 save percentage in 24 games during his second season with the team, including three shutouts.

Reports suggest that he played his 800th career game on March 2 against Nashville, becoming the 17th goaltender in NHL history to reach that milestone. Quick also earned his 400th career win on February 2 against Vegas, and his 404 career wins rank 13th all-time in NHL history. As of now, Quick’s return remains day-to-day, but his presence back on the ice is a strong sign that a return may not be far away.
