NEW DELHI: Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara, the groundbreaking Indian mixed archery team, found themselves on the cusp of securing India's first Olympic medal in the sport since 1987. However, despite their valiant efforts, they narrowly missed out on the podium, settling for a fourth-place finish at the Games on Friday.
The Indian team had already made history by reaching the semifinals of the Olympic Games for the first time ever.

However, they couldn't overcome the American duo of Casey Kaufhold and Brady Ellison in the bronze medal showdown.

The match scores were 37-38, 35-37, 38-34, 35-37, with the USA emerging victorious.
Although Bhakat and Bommadevara fought hard, they had to settle for a fourth-place finish, missing out on a medal.
Nonetheless, their performance throughout the competition was commendable and marked a significant milestone for Indian archery at the Olympic level.
Ankita experienced the greatest pressure as she shot two 7s and only managed to score a few 10s throughout the four sets.
Despite being behind 0-4, the Indian team staged an impressive comeback, with Ankita delivering a stunning 10.

The Indian team's arrows all landed in the yellow zone, while Casey appeared slightly anxious, shooting a 7 with her first arrow before following up with a 9 and a 10. However, the Indian team's performance was sufficient to secure the third set.
Dhiraj, 22, demonstrated greater consistency throughout the match, hitting four 10s. However, Ankita's performance was subpar compared to her exceptional display against the South Koreans in the semifinals. Her shots included a few 8s, which ultimately led to India's defeat in the competition.
In the previous round, the Indian duo faced the reigning champions from South Korea in the semifinal. Despite a valiant effort, Dhiraj and Ankita suffered a 2-6 loss, with set scores of 38-36, 35-38, 37-38, and 38-39.
Nevertheless, the Indian pair managed to secure a set against the formidable Korean team, showcasing their potential and determination.
