NEW DELHI: Indian sailors
Nethra Kumanan and
Vishnu Saravanan commenced their sailing journey at the Paris Olympics on Thursday. In the women's dinghy event, Kumanan secured the sixth position after the first day of competition.
Saravanan, aged 25, showcased a promising start in the men's event, clinching the 10th spot in Race 1. However, his performance took a hit in Race 2, where he finished 34th, resulting in his overall standing dropping to 25th place, PTI reported.
Nethra, the trailblazing Indian sailor who made history as the first woman from her country to participate in the Olympic Games in Tokyo three years prior, concluded her initial race with a sixth-place finish.
Unfortunately, the second race in the women's dinghy competition at Marseille Marina had to be delayed due to insufficient wind conditions.
Nethra has her sights set on securing a position within the top 10 in the current edition of the Games. Her impressive track record includes claiming bronze medals at both the Europa Cup and the Hempel World Cup Series, showcasing her skill and determination in the sport.
The top 10 boats from the Opening Series will advance to the highly anticipated medal races, where they will compete for the coveted podium positions.
