Call of Duty Mobile may soon get new battle royale map and more: Here’s what to expect
Call of Duty Mobile is expected to get new content soon. The game’s players may soon see a new large-scale battle royale map and the return of Gulag. Insider Gaming reported that Jeff Gullet, co-head of Call of Duty Mobile at Activision, confirmed the upcoming content in the first episode of Inside CODM. Details are still scarce, but Gullet hinted that more announcements could come during this year’s anniversary season. The update comes just weeks after the release of Eternal Prison, the game’s fourth season of the year. Developers at Activision and TiMi Studio Group appear to be continuing efforts to expand battle royale content, as the mobile title approaches two billion downloads globally.
Speaking about a possible new battle royale map, Gullet confirmed that additional content is in development but stopped short of revealing specifics. He said, “The short answer here is yes, for sure. But here’s the thing. We’ve just released Rebirth Island, and we’re committed to expanding battle royale, so I can’t say anything today, but I will say that we might have more to share during our anniversary season later this year.”
Gullet’s comments suggest Activision has a new large map for a battle royale on the way, which could mean more gameplay options than the current maps, such as Rebirth Island.
But the game’s developers have not revealed a launch timeline or map details. But Gullet’s comments hint the announcement could come during the game’s upcoming anniversary celebrations.
Call of Duty Mobile has consistently added new maps, events and gameplay modes as part of seasonal updates, with battle royale remaining one of the title’s major attractions.
Another feature confirmed for a comeback is Gulag, the one-versus-one elimination system that lets players return to a match after being eliminated.
When asked whether Gulag would return, Gullet said, “Yes, it is. I can’t say much more right now, but I can give you a definite yes, it is coming back.” He added that the decision was influenced by player reactions after the feature was removed.
“Gulag is a great example of us hearing community feedback and adjusting accordingly. It was a big change from our dogtag revival system, but we saw a lot people disappointed when we removed it. I’d encourage everybody to let us know, not just the things they want to see changed, but also let us know the things that you like,” Gullet added.
Activision has not confirmed how frequently Inside CODM episodes will be released, but the format could serve as a source of information on upcoming maps, gameplay changes, and seasonal updates. For now, Call of Duty Mobile players may need to wait until the anniversary season for more details on the new battle royale map and the return of Gulag.
