Mayawati
Mayawati is an Indian politician and the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), a political party that primarily represents the Dalit community in India. She is the first female Dalit Chief Minister of India and has served four terms as the Chief Minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Influenced by dalit leader Kanshiram, Mayawati joined active politics when the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was formed in 1984. She quickly rose through the ranks of the party, and in 1984, she became its national president. She first won a Lok Sabha seat contesting from Bijnor constituency in 1989.
Mayawati first served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 3 June 1995 to 18 October 1995 with support of BJP. Her second term was from 21 March 1997 to 20 September 1997. Her third term was from 3 May 2002 to 26 August 2003. She sworn in as UP CM for the fourth time on 13 May 2007. On 6 March 2012, the BSP lost its majority to the Samajwadi Party and Mayawati tendered her resignation to the governor of Uttar Pradesh the next day. On 13 March 2012 she filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha, and she was declared elected unopposed on 22 March, 2012.
Uttar Pradesh achieved higher GDP growth rate and lesser crimes under Mayawati regime as compared to previous and successive governments.
Under Mayawati's leadership, Uttar Pradesh experienced positive economic growth, with a higher GDP growth rate and a decrease in crime rates compared to previous and subsequent administrations. Her tenure was marked by efforts to uplift marginalized communities, especially the Dalits, through various social and economic welfare schemes.
However, her political career was not without controversy. In 2002-2003, Mayawati faced allegations of misappropriation of funds in the controversial Taj Corridor project, which raised questions about the proportionality of her known income to her amassed assets.
