Yáng Shuāng-zǐ's "Taiwan Travelogue" has won the 2026 international booker prize, marking the first Mandarin Chinese novel to receive the award. The book, a fictional travel memoir set in 1930s Taiwan, explores a complex romance and postcolonial themes. Author Yáng Shuāng-zǐ and translator Lin King are the first Taiwanese and Taiwanese-American winners of the prestigious prize.

The international booker prize shortlist features books blending personal and political themes, with a focus on translators' role. Notable works include Not a River, The Details, selected from 149 submissions by judges Eleanor Wachtel and Natalie Diaz.

Jenny Erpenback and Michael Hofmann win the 2024 international booker prize in London for 'Kairos', a novel depicting a love story in 1980s East Berlin. Chair of Judges, Eleanor Watchel, praises the book's luminous prose and the translation by Michael Hofmann capturing the eloquence of Erpenbeck's writing, connecting the story to East Germany's history.

'The Discomfort of Evening' by Marieke Lucas Rijneveld, translated by Michele Hutchison from Dutch, won the international booker prize 2020.

‘Tomb of Sand', originally ‘Ret Samadhi', is set in northern India and follows an 80-year-old woman in a tale the Booker judges dubbed a "joyous cacophony" and an "irresistible novel". "I never dreamt of the Booker, I never thought I could. What a huge recognition, I'm amazed, delighted, honoured and humbled,” said Geetanjali Shree in her acceptance speech.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has congratulated author Geetanjali Shree for winning the international booker prize for her Hindi novel ‘Ret Samadhi’ translated into English (Tomb of Sand) by Daisy Rockwell.

Banu Mushtaq's short story collection, "Heart Lamp," translated from Kannada, has been shortlisted for the 2025 international booker prize.
