New Zealand, often considered a safe and secure country has the lowest terror activities compared to other countries. However, the 2019 Christchurch mosque shooting left a big question on the security arrangements of the country.

In March 2019, two gunmen opened fire on mosques in Christchurch, killing 51 people and injuring 40 others. The gunman live-streamed the attack on Facebook which caused global outrage.

After the Christchurch attack, the government of New Zealand has taken various preventive measures to prevent future attacks.

The New Zealand police on Friday shot and killed a 'violent extremist' who was inspired by Islamic State, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said. The attacker was known to the police, Ardern added.
