Malaga, like a number of other Andalusian cities, has its own Moorish castle, which was built in the 11th century. However unlike most Moorish castles in Spain, Malaga’s Alcazaba is extremely well-preserved. It has been restored a number of times over the past few decades, which explains why the original structure is still in good condition. The fort-cum-castle is built on top of a hillock and offers great views of the city of Malaga and the surrounding bay. The fortification is one of the most iconic landmarks of Malaga and you must explore it when you’re in the city. The Alcazaba is also home to a Roman Theater. The theater, situated under the Alcazaba, is at the heart of Malaga’s central plaza. The gorgeous remains are witness to the touristy hustle and bustle of the city. Locals love to unwind at the stone steps of the Roman Theater as entry is free and it’s never too crowded.
