When you’re done being a beach bum, head to Gunung Raya—the highest mountain in the area. At 880 m, it towers over Langkawi Island. The road that takes visitors to the top of Gunung Raya Mountain snakes past dense vegetation and rainforests. You will occasionally spot monkeys and colourful birds on your drive. As you get closer to the top, clouds will come floating into your car. The drive is incredibly romantic and magical. There is an expansive golf course, overlooking the forests at Gunung Raya. It is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day in the midst of nature. If you’re a keen photographer, you could also go to the top of the viewing tower at Gunung Raya. For a small admission fee, you can take the elevator to the top of the tower. It affords gorgeous views of the entire island of Langkawi and the other islands of the archipelago. Of course, this isn’t recommended if you suffer even from the mildest vertigo.
