Exclusive- Rohit Chandel: My first show was Yam Hai Hum after giving 90 auditions and getting rejected

Pandya Store's Rohit Chandel, known for his role as Dhawal Makwana, has been winning hearts for his character in the show. In an exclusive conversation with ETimes TV, Rohit opens up about his struggling days, his hobby and more.

I am slowly fulfilling my dreams

I have gotten everything just because of my hard work. I believe I have received everything only after extreme hard work and I really enjoy this journey. I am enjoying everything that I have come across and achieved. When I came to Mumbai, I had a lot of dreams and I am slowly fulfilling them.

I got my ad after 90 auditions

I got my ad after 90 auditions, and after those 90 rejections, I got my first show that nobody knew about. My first TV show was Yam Hai Hum, it wasn't even a character, there used to be the background artists Man 1, Man 2 and all. Much later I came to know that it was Siddharth Kumar Tewary's show. We had done some great work together. We did Escape Live, Chandragupta Maurya, so from this to that has been an endearing journey.

We used to shoot in 45 degrees wearing 20 kg armour for Kashibai Bajirao

When I do mythological or historical shows, it is the maximum level of hard work, after doing that I find everything much easier. We used to shoot in Karjat for Bajirao. We used to shoot in 45 degrees of heat. And that armour was also original, it used to be 20 kg. Adding the talwars was also real so all those heavy armours and accessories with that much heat were quite challenging. So now, after doing that I find social dramas quite easy.

Dhawal in Pandya Store is full masala movie

The projects where I get creative satisfaction are extremely important for me. I need a good sleep after doing my scenes and be satisfied with what I do. Even with Pandya Store, I get to play so many different shades, my character hasn't been on a single graph, Dhawal is doing comedy, he is crying, he is doing romance so it has been a masala movie for me and I am learning a lot.

6/7

I love collecting old coins

Well, for now, my only hobbies are eat-sleep- Pandya Store and repeat. But apart from that I have always loved to collect old coins and I have a box full of collections. I also like horse riding and I try to do it occasionally.

7/7

I would have been a cricketer if not an actor

I would have been a cricketer if not an actor, I used to play for the Maharashtra Cricket Association. I was a fast bowler and middle-order batsman. But then I had to stop and focus on my studies and then I ventured into acting. So I would have been a cricketer if I had continued.
