Exclusive - Vatsal Sheth and Ishita Dutta on their hush-hush wedding: There are still some people who are angry with us

Television’s one of the cutest and adorable couples – Vatsal Sheth and Ishita Dutta tied the knot on November 28, 2017 in a very private and intimate ceremony. Their wedding news came as a shock to fans and in the couple’s confession – it came as a shock to many of their family members as well. In a most candid conversation with ETimes TV, Vatsal and Ishita talk about their brief dating days, their reason to get married and more. (By: Sukarna Mondal)

How they decided to get married

Vatsal and Ishita hardly dated and decided to get married soon after seeing each other within a few months. When Ishita had asked Vatsal that reason why he wants to marry her, he said, “I live in Juhu and you live in Lokhandwala. And with the Mumbai traffic, I won’t be able to meet you everyday. So let’s get married.” Ishita adds, “Thanks to Mumbai traffic and construction work, meri shaadi ho gayi.”

3/10

No drama pre-wedding

Ishita: I was expecting for some drama to happen but nothing. Our parents agreed so easily. I was hoping k koi to oppose karega. But it was as if they were waiting for us to get married.

Vatsal: Yes, when I went to meet her dad, I was wondering what he would ask. But they were so cool. They were like, ‘so when do you want to get married?’

4/10

Their very private wedding

Vatsal: I was very clear that I want a small and private wedding. There were just 30-40 people at our wedding. I still feel very bad because I didn’t even invite my own cousins. I called them and told them the reason. We wanted to keep it very very small. Our wedding got over in an hour.

Ishita: There were many people who couldn’t even arrive on time. They were going as per normal wedding schedule but by the time they arrived, meri bidaai ho gayi thi. There are still some people who are angry and we are sorry. We want to apologise.

5/10

Learning about each other

Ishita: We had hardly dated each other before marriage. We just met and in a few months we got married. I have discovered that Vatsal is very calm as a person. I learn from him how to be so patient. He is also very creative and keeps me entertained. Else I would have just ate and slept during the lockdown period.

Vatsal: I have learnt to not be around her in the morning. She is a different person in the morning. She is very grumpy.

6/10

Ishita’s dream to become a housewife

Ishita: I always wanted to be a housewife. I just wanted to get married and settle down for the longest time. My family thought I would do nothing in life.

7/10

Cooking scenes

When it comes to cooking, Ishita being a Bengali, usually prepares two types. She says, “I am a vegetarian, so if I am cooking aloo sabzi, I make two types – Bengali style and add extra masala to suit Vatsal’s Gujarati taste. Everyday I cook two types. I need to have my Bengali style food.”

8/10

Handling Vatsal’s female fans

Ishita: I remember in the initial days when we were dating, I would get so many female fan messages saying, ‘Hey! Hey! How can you marry him? He is my husband’. I used to be happy and proud.

9/10

Working together at home on a short film

The couple recently released a short film together from the confines of their home and shared their working experience.

Ishita: It was a very different experience for us. Normally we have a crew around us. But we did it all together. We would switch the cameras and then would run and comeback to sit in front of the frame. Vatsal was also very patient with me. We would at times shoot till 3-4 am and Vatsal would pep me up to give one more shot.

Vatsal: It was a struggle and difficult too. We would make sure not to annoy our neighbours.

10/10

On spending lockdown

Ishita: We are definitely getting more time to spend with each other. It’s been 2 years of our marriage (Vatsal corrects her saying ‘it’s more than 2 years). We have learnt a lot about each other. We are trying to make the most of it. We spent the first half doing household chores and second half we try to be creative.
