From being an artist before being an entrepreneur to judging Shark Tank India while being eight months pregnant: A look at Ghazal Alagh’s journey

Shark Tank India judge Ghazal Alagh along with her husband were seen talking about their journey together and how the couple stayed together in a 600 ft 2BHK house in Bandra in the initial days. Ghazal also spoke being on Shark Tank India and how she had a lot of fun. Ghazal mentioned about her journey before being a business entrepreneur. Here are some other things that Ghazal and Varun Alagh shared about their journey in the interview:

Being an artist

Ghazal showed her painting which was hung on the wall of her go-to place in her Delhi house. Ghazal stated that before she started with her company she used to be an artist and would sell her handmade paintings nationally and internationally. Ghazal further added that she had graduated as an artist from the New York Academy of Arts. She spoke about her style and said “I usually have a particular style and in many of my works you will always see horses, few birds, and musical instruments. But all these will be in pairs.”

Being in Shark Tank India

Ghazal, who was in the first season of Shark Tank India, stated that she got the opportunity to be in the show and it was one of the best things she could ever be a part of. She further added “We got to invest in a lot of businesses and met some interesting people on the show”

Four generations under one roof

While talking they also show one of their happy family picture frame which was hung on their wall. Varun shared that there are actually four generations of people who are living together under the same roof and it's quite amazing. She shares that his grandfather and grandmother, then his father and mother, Ghazal and Varun and then their kids.

Giving each other space

Ghazal shared that usually they spend a lot of time with each other while working in the office. But they give themselves space whenever they go for exercise. Ghazal stated, “I am more of a running and a yoga kind of person and especially during our exercise time that is the only time we give each other space.”

On having doubts about doing Shark Tank India

When asked about refusing the show initially, Ghazal stated “I was eight months pregnant and I was getting on to a different journey that with two kids and a number of brands and initially I never knew if I could do it and give the show so much time and therefore I was a little hesitant to the show.”

Complications in her pregnancy

While doing Shark Tank India, Ghazal states that she had a lot of problems during her pregnancy with the second child and during that time her husband Varun was her biggest strength. Ghazal adds “The misconception is that women need to take it slow when she is pregnant. But it's your choice and I wanted to do it all.”

Dealing with unsolicited advice on becoming a mother

When asked about getting any advice on how to handle work and being a mother Ghazal stated “We have a small saying in Hindi that is ‘Suno sabh ki but karo apni’. Therefore, whenever it comes to all the advice that a young mother gets like you should be doing this or that, then you should hear everything out weight them but do what you do is right for the baby. As nobody can think better for your child than you as a mother.”

First house memories

Ghazal shared that after getting married to Varun, they all stayed in their parent's house, which was in Pitampura but their first house was in Bandra, Mumbai. Varun adds “Our first was in Bandra, Mumbai which was a 600 ft 2BHK house. We had a fabulous time, we cried while we were leaving from the Bandra house.” Ghazal added “It was actually our first house where we were living alone for the first time as a couple after marriage. We had to manage the entire house buying groceries and all of that. It was special for both of us.”
