From meeting at an ad film shoot to being sceptical about the wedding; Anupamaa's Rupali Ganguly gets candid about her love story with hubby Ashwin Verma

Rupali Ganguly has become a household name with Anupamaa, the actress recently opened up about her intriguing love story with her husband Ashwin Verma. Rupali shared how they met, their relationship phase and more. In a podcast with Mashable India, here's what Rupali had to say about her wedding, proposal and more.

Ashwini had come here to make an ad film and from 100-150 pictures he shortlisted me. said, 'She's Bengali, she is mad. She left her work.' I had left work at that time. I had joined a catering college. I was so disillusioned with the film industry and then I joined catering college when I was very young.

And then I was dressed up as a 60-year-old, as a wife. Recalling the moment when Ashwin noticed her, she continued, "Suddenly, when I came out as a 60-year-old with white hair and everything, the first line he (Ashwin) said was, 'I wouldn't mind getting old with someone like you. I thought he was flirting with me, such a tall and good-looking guy."

We then started talking, and the amount we spent on ISD calls was insane. We were in a long-distance relationship. We started off as friends and then we got married. He didn't even propose to me. It was just like 'ok let's get married' and we got married.

Now I see those pre-wedding videos, there are these grand proposals. We didn't have them. And I didn't want to spend so much on a wedding. I find these ostentatious and opulent weddings very stupid. With due respect to everyone who is doing these destinations and grand weddings. We went for a simple ceremony.

We decided on the date and I told Ashwin to talk to my father. He spoke to my father and they were convinced. We then spoke to Ashwin's parents, it was nothing grand or pompous we did the registered marriage.

I was doing Parvarrish at that time and I asked my producer for a holiday and I told him that I was getting married tomorrow. He then gave me an off. I had earlier told them as well that I was marrying but didn't get married. So he asked me 'pakka karegi' and then I called my close and dear ones.

I told my co-stars from Sarabhai that I was getting married and they thought it was a joke. They even felt sorry for Ashwin. So I told them that if Ashwin comes tomorrow then it's a wedding party and if he doesn't then it's just a party. I wasn't sure if Ashwin would actually marry me or if this was actually happening.
