About the show

One of the most loved shows of the 90s- Shaktimaan is a sitcom that went on from 1997 to 2005. It ruled the hearts of the audience with its unique storyline and amazing star cast. Shaktimaan was depicted as a human who has attained superhuman powers through meditation and five elements of nature: Space, Earth, Air, Fire, Water

The storyline

The story is about how the evil was has been ruling the world and the Suryanshis chose an ordinary man- Shaktimaan as the warrior to fight evil. According to the storyline, Shaktimaan was the rebirth of Shri Satya who had formed the Suryanshi Sect after the war of the Mahabharata 7,500 years ago. Shaktimaan got his powers from 7 spiritual gurus who had blessed him with mystical yogic shakti and trained him in ancient combat forms. Eventually he transformed into a super human warrior in order to fight against the forces of evil in the world and ultimately becomes the super hero Shaktimaan.

The Indian Superman

The 90s kids remember Shaktimaan as the Indian superhero or the Indian Superman. Mukesh Khanna managed to make a special place in the audience’s hearts and became a household name for his performance in the sitcom. Till date Shaktimaan is one of the most loved characters of the Indian television.

The cast

Mukesh Khanna, who produced the show played the role lead character- Shaktimaan. He also played his alter ego "Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri", a photographer for the newspaper "Aaj Ki Aawaz". Kitu Gidwani (later replaced by Vaishnavi Mahant) won hearts for the role of Geeta Vishwas, a reporter who loves Shaktimaan. Surendra Pal, on the other hand played the role of Tamraj Kilvish.

Where the cast members are now

Mukesh Khanna, who is popular for his show Shaktimaan, is all set to make a comeback with a new project. The actor will be seen playing Marshall, a retired RAW officer. Kitu Gidwani, was last seen in TV show Hum Rahein Na Rahein Hum. Surendra Pal, on the other hand was seen in many popular TV shows post-the show.

Mukesh Khanna’s reaction on the Shaktimaan film

Mukesh has been making headlines for his reaction on Ranveer Singh starring in the new Shaktimaan film. He said, “Contract has been signed. Ye bohot bade level ki film hai. One film would cost Rs 200-300 crore and it will be made by Sony Pictures, the one who made Spider-Man. But it kept getting delayed, first there was the pandemic, I had announced it on my channel too that the film is happening, but..I recently told someone that this is not a small film, it is a massive film and that takes time. A lot of things are happening, but I am not allowed to talk. The big question is, will I be Shaktimaan? Who will play it? I can’t reveal. But it is a commercial film, so it involves a lot of commercial talks. But main rahuga, mere bagair toh Shaktimaan nahi ban sakti ye sabko pata hai (I will be in the film, Shaktimaan can’t be made without me, everyone knows).”

Interesting facts about the show

Not many know that Mukesh Khana was also the producer of the show - Shaktimaan. In 2019, Mukesh Khanna disclosed that the show had to be cancelled not because of the complaints of children replicating the stunts but rather because of the exorbitant broadcasting expenses, which were causing him to lose money. Gangadhar reveals to the children in one episode that he is a skilled actor and inquires as to whether or not they are interested in watching him portray Bheeshma Pitamaha.
