Is Donald Trump ushering in a dangerous new phase of American imperialism? The world woke up to a rude shock on January 3 when the United States military attacked Venezuela and captured its president Nicolas Maduro. But Trump hasn't stopped at Venezuela. He is threatening multiple countries, including Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, Iran, and even Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory under Danish sovereignty. Trump has claimed the US “needs” Greenland for security reasons, prompting sharp rebukes from Greenlandic and Danish leaders, who warned such actions could undermine NATO itself.
